Abstract: U.S. federal laws create specific obligations for U.S. colleges and universities regarding the prevention, reporting, and response to campus sexual misconduct. This document is a resource for Forum member institutions to understand U.S. federal law with regard to sexual misconduct. State law in the United States and international laws are outside the scope of this document. All Forum member institutions can endeavor to understand the U.S. legal environment and to educate their partners about their own legal and policy frameworks. An effective response to the evolving expectations around sexual misconduct prevention, reporting, and response will require constructive dialogue among all members of the education abroad field.
