In April 2011, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) issued a Dear Colleague Letter, also known as guidance, to remind schools of their obligations to prevent and address sexual violence under Title IX. It reiterates that under Title IX, all schools that receive federal funds must take immediate and effective steps to respond to sexual violence.
